Cherry Blossom - sold out
15 Days • 21Mar – 04 April 2025
As well as the cherry blossoms, we’re going to the annual sumo wrestling tournament in Osaka! We will travel to Himeji to see the Heron Castle, and then head further west to Miyajima Island where we will stay overnight. We will visit the Atomic Bomb Memorial in Hiroshima and then we fly north to Sendai. We’ll meet people in Fukushima area who survived the triple disaster (earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown) and learn how they are rebuilding their lives. This trip ends in Tokyo, the biggest city in the world. Of course we will have a picnic or three while admiring the cherry blossoms at both iconic and peaceful places. As the nights will still be quite cold, you might enjoy a hot bath at home or a long soak in a nearby hot spring. Drinking hot sake around a bubbling pot of shabu shabu with new friends is also a must.

Join fellow Rotarians on an exchange visit to Ibaraki Rotary, midway between Osaka and Kyoto. We will learn about their major projects and sing the 4 way test in Japanese! This private tour is timed to coincide with Japan’s spectacular, autumn colours. I’m excited to take you to an ikebana (floral art) exhibition, to ride a scenic boat ride down a river in Kyoto, to stroll under the maples at Mino Waterfall and we will stay overnight in a Buddhist Temple at the top of Mt Koya. I’m also excited to take you to some fantastic restaurants. Lyn & Will have some interesting neighbors (our home base) - a landscape architect, a furniture designer, a 5 star chef, a sake brewer and families who have farmed the same soil for over 40 generations.
